Julen Lopetegui has earned universal approval inside the Milan brass. The choice only needs the stamp of approval of owner Gerry Cardinale. On the other hand, the Rossoneri are revolting only against it, and the patron isn’t deaf to the protest, TuttoSport informs.

The three apical execs, Giorgio Furlani, Geoffrey Moncada, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, all concur. There’s an agreement in place for a three-year contract with €4M annual wages.

As their CEO previously stated, the key choices at Milan are signed off directly by Cardinale, who has been informed of the advanced talks with Lopetegui. On the other hand, the president has been blindsided by the dissent by the fans. It’s not so certain he’ll give his final greenlight.

The Rossoneri have been linked to a few other options, but they are all secondary. They aren’t considering Antonio Conte, and Juventus are in pole position for Thiago Motta. Lille’s Paolo Fonseca, Antwerp’s Mark Van Bommel, RB Leipzig’s Diego Rose, and Nice’s Francesco Farioli would be the fallbacks if the top option fell through.

Our Take on Milan and Lopetegui

If they are really convinced, they should go ahead without listening to the supporters. It wouldn’t be the first nor the last time a maligned choice at first worked out well. It’d be a bad look for them if Motta really left Bologna to join the Old Lady, which is in much worse shape. The absence of a seasoned exec might be starting to show.
